Art Collage

I've been wanting to spruce up Raegan's room without totally redoing it. There is a really cute 21x21 piece of art over the changing table, but it looks lonely on such a long wall. I love the wall collages I see in magazines, but I've never had the confidence to put together something that coordinates but isn't exactly matching. I decided to surround it by several other pieces of various sizes. As much as I would have loved to scour etsy for some awesome art to frame, I decided to be frugal. I thought through several ideas, like covering canvases in Amy Butler fabric, but the plan I decided on was covering canvases with scrapbook papers. Well, that was a bust! I finished all of the canvases, planned the layout, hung them up, and hated it. It just looked too amateurish. I know I'm an amateur, but I don't want home decor that looks like a 9 year old made it. When Raegan is 9, I will proudly display her art work; otherwise it's not cool. On the bright side, I hung the canvases with those 3M strips and didn't put holes in the wall.

Blech! So disappointing!

On to Plan B ~ I saw some wall cubes and ledges and Target and thought they would be a much more "put together" look. I get impatient with projects and attempted to hang them while Ryan was at work. As I hammered, Raegan ate an apple and hammered the wall with her apple. I found some brown spots on the wall a few days ago, and I realized what they were :) I got about 2 minutes into the project and decided to wait for Ryan before I did major damage. He got the pieces up and I am very pleased with it. I filled the cubes and ledges with some special things: Raegan's first pair of shoes, a stuffed dog that Ryan gave me when we first started dating (nine years ago!), and a book that was mine as a child. I wrote my name in the front of it when I first learned to write. It's in all capital letters because that's how my dad writes and apparently how he taught me to write. He said my teacher sent a note home and asked "whoever" to stop teaching me to write IN ALL CAPS.

These little books are the perfect size for the smaller cubes.

I insist you show me Raegan's room next time I'm at your house. It looks adorable!
