Raegan's book came today from Shutterfly. I've used the site many times for other photo books and ordering invitations and announcements. I saw an idea to make a photo book for babies since they love to see pictures of themselves and loved ones. I didn't necessarily make it as a scrapbook, but more of a learning book for Raegan to see herself and read about some of the things she does. She smiled really big when I showed her the picture on the cover and said "That's Raegan!" She lost interest after a few pages, but I think she'll come to enjoy it.
They are so easy to make! Upload your photos, select a page theme (birthday, baby, school, etc.) and start arranging your pictures. You get to choose each page layout and how many photos to put on each page. You also choose the font and photo edges. Add captions or select layouts that allow more room for typing detailed descriptions of events. You will be informed if your photo's resolution is too low. It saves you from ending up with a printed book of fuzzy photos. Your finished product can be soft cover or hard cover. I go with the hard cover so it will hold up better over time. I'm planning to make these for Raegan instead of an actual scrapbook. This is much more realistic for me to keep up with. I'm up-to-date on her first year book and will have it printed after her birthday party.
A photo book can be used for many things. Besides scrapbooking, you could make one to teach certain skills to toddlers, like getting dressed, washing hands, using good manners, etc. Take pictures of them at each step of the process and make it into a book with instructions on each page. It could also be a great way to prepare your firstborn for a new baby brother or sister. Take pictures of them with a baby doll or baby cousin and make a book about being gentle with baby and all the things you do for a baby. Take pictures of things around your house such as fruits, flowers, toys, pets, etc., and label each of them. Now your child has a book of helpful early words that is personalized with things they see every day. There are endless possibilities! Have fun creating something special!
