One Month

Even though she can't roll over yet, I was closely monitoring this nap. She slept in the chair for 2 hours vs. the usual10 minutes in the Pack 'n Play, so don't judge me.

Raegan is one month old today! Even with some long nights and a few tough days, it has gone by fast to me. Lately she hasn't been napping very well on her own. She does great if I'm holding her, but when I do that I can't seem to get anything else done. We ordered a swaddling wrap called The Miracle Blanket. We've used it for 3 nights so far, and last night she slept for 5 hours. She doesn't like being in it because she likes to have her hands by her face, but the package assures me that in 1-2 weeks she will be calm at the mere sight of this miracle blanket coming at her. We'll see.

Tuesday we went to Deszarae's house. Her daughter, Jasmin, is about 6 weeks older than Raegan. I don't think either of the babies were interested in each other, but the moms had fun. I think I ate something Wednesday that upset Raegan's stomach. I'm not sure if that's what happened, but I ate fries for the first time since she's been born. That's the only thing I can think of that I did differently. I felt so bad because we were up most of the night and I could hear her stomach gurgling.

Oprah had a really interesting show on Thursday. There is a program called Puppies Behind Bars that helps inmates train dogs to be service dogs for wounded veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. It seems to be very transforming for everyone involved. The prisoners learn responsibility and experience the unconditional love from the dogs, and the veterans receive a
companion and helper. If you want to learn more about it, check out www.puppiesbehindbars.org
You can purchase a rubber chew toy to help support the program. It's made from the mold of a military boot. www.FetchDog.com

Thursday night two women came to the door. I was in the downstairs bathroom and Ryan was changing Raegan, which meant she was crying. They were from a local church and were just out evangelizing at 8:30. After acknowledging that he had his hands full with a crying baby, they asked him if he was going to heaven. He said, "I'm pretty sure I am, thanks." They wanted to talk some more, but he politely ended it. Somewhere in the midst of all this my parents called and I heard him say, "She'll call you back. I've got about 12 things going on right now." :)

I ran a couple of errands today, including Trader Joe's. I try to park next to the cart return whenever possible, but all the spots were taken. After I got to the car I saw 2 ladies coming and asked them if they needed a cart. They wanted to see Raegan, and when they saw her said, "Oh, she's white!" I don't know if they just meant pale, but after looking at me, I'm not sure what they expected her to be. They were really nice, though, and admired her for a few minutes. Most importantly they took my cart and I didn't have to walk it back. I'm not going to let a baby turn me into one of the annoying people who leave their cart in the middle of the parking lot.

Happy Anniversary this week to my parents (38 years) and Ryan's parents (40 years)!!
