Smiles

We had a good week around here. Last Saturday night, Tony and Shaina brought dinner and dessert to us. Raegan went to sleep and we were able to play Trivial Pursuit. I'm sad to say that Shaina and I lost miserably. I blame my smaller, post-pregnancy brain. Ryan's dad-to-be book said pregnant women's brains shrink by 3-5% due to compressed, not lost, brain cells. In a few months things return to normal. Then his book wisely advised him not to tell me this. He obeyed and didn't tell me, I read it on my own. I have to say that I enjoyed his book The Expectant Father more than I enjoyed the ones I read that are written to women. Maybe it's because his was not directed at me and repeatedly urged him to be understanding with me and what I was going through. My books were mostly filled with "eat this not that, don't do x, y, and z, your baby could develop these problems, this is how you'll be feeling soon, etc.

Raegan and I ran several errands this week. We met Ryan for lunch on Wednesday at a neat place called Genghis Grill. It's a build-your-own stir fry restaurant. We hope to be able to meet him for lunch once a week. I took her to school on Friday to see the people I worked with last year. The kids don't come until Thursday, so hopefully it wasn't very germy. They were all very excited to see her and she enjoyed the attention. She smiles at us a now, mostly in the morning when she first wakes up. It's really exciting to have feedback from her that does not involve crying! Last night she slept for 5 hours, ate once, and then slept 2 more hours. Of course, I had just put her down for a nap and the workers decided to bang around on the house behind us. They haven't worked on it all week, but apparently something was urgent at 7:00 on a Saturday morning. I think they're hanging dry wall today... lovely.

Tuesday I have my 6-week post-partum check up with my OB. I'm so glad they called to confirm my appointment and remind me that it's at their new office because I certainly would have gone to the old one which is farther away. I'm hoping I'll be cleared to work out again. I know I wasn't in phenomenal shape before I got pregnant, but I am used to having more muscle tone than I have right now. I bought "30 Day Shred" with Jillian Michaels, one of the trainers on "The Biggest Loser." I watched part of a workout on Youtube and it seems to be a good fit for me at this point. It's only 20 minutes, but it's a non-stop circuit with hand weights, cardio, and ab work. I'm looking forward to it and I hope I can have time to do it every day while a certain someone naps. I'd eventually like to get back into spin classes. The gym has a day care/nursery, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet.

I saw a piece on "The Today Show" about a couple in a famous picture taken at Woodstock. They got married 2 years later and are still married today (38 years).

Raegan wanted to pay a special tribute to the 40th anniversary of Woodstock...

If you can't tell, her shirt says "Make babies not war" and she's giving you a peace sign.
