Settling In

Well, we've been home for almost a week. It is a big adjustment, but I think we are handling it well. I am very grateful for my parents' help and glad that Ryan's parents will be here next week when my mom leaves. Raegan is doing well and developing somewhat of a routine. She eats about every 2-3 hours and then naps. She spends a little bit of time being alert and just looking around at all the new things in her world. She doesn't seem to like being in her bed at night. We have her crib in our room, but she doesn't stay asleep very long. Last night she slept in the guest room with my mom with some lights on and did really well in her sleep wedge. Mom said Raegan ordered some towels from QVC at about 3 am :) I don't think she likes the dark, which is strange because she was in the dark for 9 months. We're still experimenting to see what will work. She did really well with her naps on the sleep wedge in the pack & play yesterday and today, so maybe we're on to something. She's also doing really well with breast feeding which is a big relief to me. I started pumping a little bit yesterday to get a little relief and let other people feed her during the night. She doesn't seem to be bothered by eating both ways. I have to say, she has the most potent gas! I never knew babies could be so lethal!

We went to the pediatrician on Friday and everything looks good. She lost a few ounces which is normal. I'm doing pretty well. I'm still really sore from the stitches and the whole ordeal in general. I think I'm experiencing every emotion under the sun. I knew it was normal but I'm not sure I actually expected it to happen. Today I walked for about 10 minutes with my mom, then Ryan and I went to the grocery store this afternoon. It was nice to get out, even if I was moving at a snail's pace. Ryan has been amazing! I never doubted that he would be good dad, and it's been so neat to watch him. He cleaned our bathroom yesterday without being asked. It was bothering me that it was dirty, but I tried to let it go because I knew it wasn't urgent. He's changed most of her diapers and is great at calming her when she cries. I know it will be hard for him to go back to work tomorrow. Tony and Shaina came by for a while tonight and it was nice to visit with them.

We appreciate the calls, e-mails, and thoughts! I will try to post some pictures tomorrow.

I am so glad you guys are doing great! I know what you mean about moving at the pace of a snail (I did for weeks!). And, I know every baby is different but the miracle blanket or very tight swaddle does work wonders!!
