We had Raegan's party at a local park. With school being out for the older kids, it's just too many chirrens to have at our house and our shoe box of a yard. Having a party away from home has its pros and cons. It's nice not to clean house before and after the party. However, there are always some unknowns that must be factored in to an away-from-home party. For example, the park space is not available to reserve, so I have to keep my fingers crossed that no one's there. Huge sigh of relief as I pulled into the parking lot to an empty pavilion. I began setting up the table cloths and putting things down to keep them from blowing away. All of a sudden, the sprinklers came on. These weren't dainty little sprinklers spraying a refreshing mist. No, as luck would have it, these were turbo sprinklers spraying laser beams 30 yards onto my lovely handmade kraft paper runner with paw prints. Runner down! I considered crying for a second, but I decided to get over it and move on. No one would notice that it was warped, right?
The kids were really excited to wear the dog ears, and most painted their nose. They enjoyed the mini corn dogs and had fun getting their own purple drink out of the beverage dispenser. I had a glass jar filled with puff cereal to look like dog food. Some of the older kids got into it and started feeding each other and pretending to be dogs. Not surprisingly, I found Raegan staked out by the mini corn dog tray taking one bite and moving on to another. She always does that at buffet style gatherings; you have to keep an eye on that one. About halfway through the party I saw her walking to our car. I asked where she was going and she said, "Time to go home." I explained that her friends were there to play with her, and she went back. I sent Ryan back to the house for the cupcakes. The kids were getting a little antsy for them and were so excited to see him coming back. "Cupcake Man!!"
Overall, I think Raegan and her friends had fun. I was exhausted afterwards, not to mention that it was almost 100 degrees. We came home and played with her new toys. She got a doll equipment set from the group with a high chair, pack & play, bouncy seat, and car seat. She didn't want to stop playing and take a nap, but she finally did and slept really well. Now she is confused that her actual birthday hasn't happened yet.
