2 Years Old

At 2 years old, Raegan...
  • is very observant and, dare I say, nosy. She gets the nosy part from me. She interjects relevant comments when I am talking to Ryan. She is always listening, even when she is engaged in some other activity.
  • loves to read. Her favorite book is any book that stalls nap time or bed time :) And she's really into SkippyJon Jones. She calls him Jon Jones.
  • has a good appetite. Some of her favorite foods are yogurt, cheese, chocolate milk, grapes, "Mimi's cereal" (Special K with Almonds), oranges, salmon, scrambled eggs, & peanut butter.
  • wears a size 7 shoe.
  • takes a nap from 1:00-3:00, sometimes closer to 4:00 which makes bedtime difficult.
  • loves all kinds of trucks. She is always on the lookout for the "green trash truck" and "ment" (cement) truck.
  • now says her name "Raegan" instead of "Yaegan."
  • constantly talks about a friend named Logan but doesn't pay much attention to him in person. She has even blamed things on him at home.
  • enjoys grocery shopping at Trader Joe's with their kid-size carts.
  • wants to do things "self."
  • really, really loves babies.
  • still has a binky for sleep. I'm not sure when we are phasing that out.
  • wants to wear underwear but doesn't want to use the potty.
  • has opinions about what she wears some days.
  • has called 911 twice: once on the house phone at 9 months and once on Ryan's cell phone last week.
  • weighs about 23 pounds.
  • knows left from right better than I do. There, Dad, I said it!
  • does not watch TV. I thought we were holding out until she was 2, but Ryan has just informed me that we should keep going until at least 4. I have to say, though, it's nice not to have battles over cartoons or a house full of Dora paraphernalia. I don't care much for character products from an aesthetic point of view. Although, I do think Olivia is pretty cute (when her mouth is closed). Raegan just thinks it's a regular pig.
  • has an excellent memory.
  • does not want anything in her hair.
  • does not like it when I wear a ponytail or hair clip. "Pony tail off!" Lucky for her I just got a trim and probably can't do a ponytail.
  • invites kids to swing with her on the tire swing. "Swing too?!"
  • likes to pay for things and play with her cash register. In her world, everything is $2. This puts most items into 2 categories: a steal or highway robbery.
  • is a mind reader. Ryan and I have each had a neat experience with her. A couple of weeks ago I was sitting with her and somehow started wondering if I ate healthy as a child and teenager. I thought to myself, I drank a lot of chocolate milk, that's for sure! Then Raegan immediately said "Chocky milk." Ryan was changing her and thought to himself, I bet I won't be changing her much longer before she'll be potty trained. Then she said "potty train."
  • thinks Ryan's job is building tables and chairs. He has been building a table for her recently. She asks where he is on weekends during the times he's working on it, and I tell her he's working on her table and chairs. So now on weekdays she says, "Dad's at work... table and chairs." "Oh, is that what dad does at his job?" "Yeah."
