Binky

For the longest time, we gave the binky to Raegan at naps and bedtime. Otherwise, we kept them out of sight. We started letting her have it more a couple of months ago when she was chewing her fingers to pieces while teething. We always called it a pacifier until we recently began calling it a binky. I found a book called Binky, so I figured we could call it that and she would relate to the book. The book is about a baby looking all over the house for his binky. He finally finds it in his crib, "just where I like it best." My problem with it is that Raegan naturally stops talking when she has it. She points and grunts like a Neanderthal. The second it comes out of her mouth she starts talking non-stop. Wednesday afternoon I gathered them up and put them out of sight. She asked once and I told her she could have it at bed time. She's been doing great without it during the day. She asks once or twice and that's it. "Minky?!" "It's waiting for you in your crib." "Kay!" She willingly leaves it in her crib when she wakes up. She's such an easy-going girl with things like this, so I don't know why we've been putting it off. I'm glad to see her doing well without it and I love hearing her talk all day.

Dana, I remember wondering why I kept putting things off like this too. Lucy was so accepting when I told her she couldn't sleep with a sippy cup of water anymore. I told her she could have a sip before bed but I was going to take it to the kitchen after that. I never heard a complaint out of her. I am learning that kids are pretty accepting if we just give them a matter of fact explanation. Her hair IS growing!
