Lacy at Tatum Tales invited readers to blog about a day in their life. I chose to journal a typical day and not necessarily chronicle the exact events of one specific day. I have pieced together some photos from different days since I am forgetful with the camera. My dad was recently here for a few days, so I am actually in some of the photos for a change! Raegan is transitioning to one nap, so the flow of our typical day is a little new to us.
Raegan is a little rooster and usually wakes up bright and early, happy as can be.
She chugs her morning milk as soon as we come downstairs.
Sometimes she sits and sometimes she wanders around while drinking. Ryan took this precious picture of her. It's very hard to get her to sit still for a picture these days.
Then we call my mom to chat.
She heads to her dog bed for some reading.
I've never enforced independent play; she just likes to do it a couple of times a day. She has recently started "reading" out loud. Her current favorite sea creature in this book is the jiggly jellyfish.
I make our breakfast and my coffee. She's doing great with her fork and spoon lately.
"All done, mom!"
We go upstairs to get dressed. She plays in our bathroom and closet while I get ready. I'm quick, though. I shower at night, so it only takes me about 10 minutes to get ready.
We're off to the grocery store. I remembered to take a peeled apple to keep Raegan from wanting to eat everything in the cart.
She loves to put our items on the conveyor belt. I usually hand her the same small things over and over, but she doesn't seem to mind.
Raegan generously pays for our groceries.
We put the groceries away and start some laundry.
She has to be in the middle of all the action.
We have lunch together. Most meals require sweeping afterwards.
I hate feeling crumbs under my bare feet!
(Diapers drying to the side to be folded later).
Raegan naps and I take some time to play on the computer. If there is any prep work I can do for our dinner, I go ahead and do that, such as thawing, measuring out spices, and setting out any necessary tools.
When Raegan wakes up she has some milk and a snack.
We play and go for a walk if it's not too cold. Now that's it's getting cold outside we play in the car. She loves to be in the front seat and turn on the hazard lights. She wants me to put the keys in and turn on the radio. And we must have all the doors closed as if we are really going somewhere!
She usually climbs on me and wants to be held while I make dinner. She likes to see what I'm doing and says "hot" when she sees the food on the stove.
Sometimes I can convince her to tend to her stove by saying something like, "How's your sauce coming along?" The other day I tasted her sauce and jokingly said "I think it needs more salt." I turned back around and she had gotten the sea salt from the pantry and pretended to sprinkle it in her pot. I was pretty impressed!
Check out her house shoes :)
I can't say yes to Raegan's every desire, but I never turn down a request to read her a book, no matter what I'm doing. I've even whispered a book to her while talking on the phone.
I don't think my mom minded, if she knew :)
Here we are, reading in the kitchen floor. She likes my silly noises.
We play as much as we can while our dinner is cooking/baking. Recently she wants to get in the recliner and I get behind it. We pop out from side to side scaring each other. Ryan comes home not a moment too soon and we eat. We play together in the living room for a few minutes and pick up the toys for the night. Raegan helps pick up some toys but usually gets side-tracked by the puzzles or books.
We bathe her about every other night, then Ryan carries her wrapped in a towel and they chase me around upstairs. We get her dressed for bed and brush her teeth. I kiss Raegan, the doll, and Ryan goodnight (so he won't feel left out). Ryan spends some time with her in her room and puts her to bed with all of her dogs.
While Ryan is upstairs with Raegan I can usually convince myself to straighten up the kitchen before I run out of steam and flop out on the couch. We watch TV, talk, fold laundry if needed, and play on our computers until bedtime around 10:00.

Love all the shots of you with her during the day!
She cracks me up -- seems like a really sweet girl.
And good idea about taking an apple with you for her to munch on.
Hey Dana, great post! Wish we could be there to join in a fun day with you.
Hey D-
First of all I have to say that the story about the crayon-licking cracked me up! And second of all I wanted to say thank you for your advice on toddler discipline. I depend on moms like you! : )
