My Gladys

There's an episode of "Friends" where Phoebe has to get rid of her beloved (and dreadful) piece of art that she calls Gladys. After seeing every episode a million times, I find that everything in life is relatable to an episode of "Friends." If you need to refresh your memory, here's a clip:

It hit me the other day that I have my own Gladys.

I painted this in high school art class during my junior year. I took the inspiration from an ad in a magazine for comfortable running shoes that apparently make your feet happy. For some reason, I just cannot bear to part with it. It has never been displayed in our home, or anywhere else I've lived for that matter, nor do I have a desire to display it. But I just can't bring myself to get rid of it. I bet my dad would take it. He has every piece of paper I've ever marked, which I think is really sweet. But how do you spring a big foot on someone? It would probably just sit in his closet instead of mine. I thought about selling it (ha) but how can I put a price on something like that?! I think what I actually mean is "Would someone pay even $3 for it?"

It turns out that my mom also has a Gladys - a terribly ugly broach I gave her when I was little. I don't know whose sick idea it was to let me buy this or who gave me the money for it, but she held on to it all this time. She's scheming, actually.
She's saving it for Raegan to give to me on some
future Mother's Day when I least expect it. This is my fate, this lovely jewel. I am to wear it proudly just as my mom did. . . in public. . . at least once. Now the question is which one of these sneaks gets my Gladys - my mom or Raegan. I could give it to Raegan as a dorm warming gift or a wedding gift and tell her how special it is to me (except that it's not). One thing is certain, though; the foot is officially off the market, and I'm saving it for one of them. Karma, baby.

I am SO glad I am not the only one who relates everything in life to Friends. :) You should definitely keep your Gladys around for her to be embarrassed about. We have an ugly monkey cookie jar that is our Gladys.

HAHAHAHA!! I love it! Who knew that prob not 2 years after that fateful foot that you would get a big ole cross tatted on your toe! Do you still hae the point on there? I don't know what my Galdys would be........looking......thinking.....well, whatever it is, it's NOT hanging or sitting out. THough the polls are skewed b/c most things are packed up in boxes these days.
