All Done

Sister Mary Raegan - back in the habit

Raegan has been very busy. Daily she takes 5-6 small steps in a row. She doesn't seem to think it's a big deal. She doesn't look at us with a proud smile like she does with some other things we praise her for. She's getting the hang of signing "more" and has her own version of "all done." She rolls her hands like pat-a-cake, so I assumed she was just randomly playing it while she ate, but I think it's the best she can come up with right now. Ryan's theory is that she thinks we're starting pat-a-cake when we sign "all done", so she does the roll it part. He thinks she's just playing our game if that's what it takes to get out of the high chair. Friday evening we were invited to dinner at the home of Ryan's new coworker. It took a little longer to get there than we anticipated, so I hopped in the back with Raegan to keep her company. After a few minutes of playing with each others sunglasses she signed "all done" because she was ready to get out of the car seat. We've been working on it at home in her high chair so she can tell us she's done instead of having a fit to get out.
We had a lovely day on Sunday, faux Father's Day (see my earlier post). Monday we went to play group at a park for a little girl's 2nd birthday. There was another clown... yuck. On the bright side, Jingles was a grandmotherly clown and not a creepy man clown. Raegan crawled over to play with her huge shoes while she was painting faces, so I thought I should do the responsible thing and keep Raegan from licking her shoes even though it meant being too close for comfort. Jingles offered to paint Raegan's face (hooray) so I requested a puppy paw on her arm. She was very squirmy so Jingles suggested a simple heart. Raegan ended up with a pink and purple streak on her arm and we gave up. She was so great the entire time. She didn't fuss at all at the party. However, when we got home, she wouldn't fall asleep for her afternoon nap. I guess she had a little too much excitement for the day. I blame Jingles.
