Wyatt's Arrival

Mr. Wyatt arrived at 2am on Sunday, December 30th. I had an induction date set for January 2nd but was hoping to go into labor on my own. I had a check-up on Thursday and started feeling blah afterwards. Friday and Saturday morning were pretty miserable. I felt like I imagine a cow feels when she's going into labor. I wanted to wander off and go curl up in a field. I knew something was going on Saturday morning and was afraid of waiting too late to go to the hospital. Since I was induced with Raegan, I didn't know what it feels like to have natural contractions. By Saturday afternoon I felt like I should start timing contractions on the one and only App I have on my phone. By that point they were 5 minutes apart and lasting close to one minute each. They weren't very intense, but after 30 minutes I felt like we should mobilize. I am not cut out for delivering a baby in the car.

I was 4cm dilated when we arrived at triage. They monitored me for 30 minutes or so and sent us to an L&D room. My doctor was not on call that day, and I did not know the doctor who was on call. Right away she wanted to break my water and get things going. No way. I'm not getting stranded without an epidural, and I was dead set against narcotics this time. I'm so glad we did not let her right then because the anesthesiologist got called back to 3 emergency C-sections before he could come to my room. In the mean time, the contractions really were not that bad before the epidural. The dr. broke my water around 10:15pm and let things progress. The epidural did it's job and I barely felt a thing. I felt like I was stalling out towards the end of pushing. Ryan saved the day by suggesting the leg bar, and Wyatt was out a couple of pushes later. Mister weighed 9 lbs. and 2 oz.! Overall, it was a completely different and easier experience from my labor with Raegan. I think the biggest difference was not having pitocin this time. We made different decisions and tried to play things conservatively.

He was able to be placed on my chest right away, which we didn't get to experience with Raegan.
