Goals for 2012

  1. Finish In Defense of Food and continue our transition towards real food - more specifically: eating more fruits and vegetables (preferably in season) and drastically reducing refined flour and sugar intake. Here's my previous post on Food Rules, also by Michael Pollan.
  2. Check into joining a CSA (Community Shared Agriculture)
  3. Make a small variety of safer cleaners - I have been using an all-purpose surface cleaner this year, and I really like it. I'd like to add a disinfecting spray and shower scrub.
  4. Make laundry detergent

  5. Continue de-cluttering the house
  6. Stick to a weekly cleaning schedule - I am so bad about looking at something that needs to be cleaned and thinking Didn't I just clean that 3 days ago?! Truth be told, it had probably been much longer than I care to admit.
  7. Somehow survive the end of the world in December - I do appreciate it waiting until December because that gives me the whole year to accomplish my other goals with no excuses that I ran out of time.
  8. Get up before Raegan and get myself dressed and ready for our day. I know, it's ridiculous that I don't already do this, especially since she usually sleeps until 7:00. I have done it a few times lately and it makes for a much easier morning. A couple of weeks ago I was dressed and ready when she came downstairs. She gave me a strange look, like What's going on? Why did you sleep in that? I also have pleasant thoughts of having breakfast and coffee with Ryan before he goes to work.
  9. Have fun with Raegan's food
  10. Bake at least one loaf of bread - I've got my eye on a recipe for honey wheat. We actually don't eat much bread, but I'd still like to try making it.

I'm eager to get to work on these goals for the new year. I'm sensing a pioneer theme...

2011 Goals in Review:
  1. Cook more from scratch - I'd say this brought the most rewarding results for all three of us. I have tried all kinds of recipes this year: fish, chicken, beef, baked goods, soups, & roasted veggies, thanks largely to Pinterest. It is rare that we have any kind of processed item in our dinner anymore. Ryan and I agree that it is not worth it to backtrack; things we used to eat just don't taste the same after having fresh ingredients.
  2. Work out regularly - This was sporadic at best, unless chasing Raegan on the play ground counts. In that case, I worked out all the time. I'm proud to report that I've been working out with Body Rock since we've been back.
  3. Finish 2010 December Daily - check
  4. My etsy shop is doing well. I had a steady stream of orders throughout the year and a very busy holiday season.
