The Girl Effect

I thought Oprah was especially powerful today. It was based on the book Half the Sky which exposes some of the terribly oppressive conditions women are facing around the world, particularly in developing countries. I get overwhelmed when I hear about things like this because I want to help, but I feel like my efforts are so small. However, I have always been a believer in synergy, so I want to help and believe that my efforts are being strengthened by other people who are choosing to do the same.

If you are interested in helping, you can go here and see what you can do for as little as $5. Before I donate money I like to know specifically what it will be used for, and on this wish list you can see a wide range of needs and see what each one costs. Some of the needs include school supplies, small animals to raise for profit, medical supplies, medical testing, etc. I found it a little difficult to make a Christmas list this year because I don't like to ask for things to just to be asking. If you find yourself in a similar situation, consider asking for something donated in your name to an organization you would like to support.

Here's a neat video to show you how you can empower girls and women:

I saw this show too! I was amazed to see the slavery in young girls, it really broke my heart! Thanks for the info.
