False Alarm

One night last week I was awakened to the smoke alarms chirping their annoying low battery chirp. It didn't seem to bother the other two sleepers. I've dealt with this before during the day and I thought I could change the battery without bothering anyone. It seems like I just changed them recently, but who knows. It sounded like it was coming from the one in Raegan's room, so I got the step stool and set to work. As soon as I took the battery out, they all went berserk. I now know they are wired together. I was smacking it like a tether ball when I heard Ryan scurry out of the covers. (I have no patience for things like this). He flew right past me on the ladder and scooped up Raegan. He looked around to determine his next move. In a not-so-friendly tone, I said, "It's me on the ladder!" Actually, my tone was more like, "Calm down. I'm just up here fixing the smoke detectors (at 2:30am in the dark like I always do)." He took Raegan in our room while I proceeded to continue playing tether ball with the alarm. Sorry, Dad. I know you taught me better. I politely asked Ryan to go fix it before I lost my mind and said bad words. Raegan asked to be put back to bed and then we had a good laugh about the situation. I asked him if he considered where I was or looked over in bed to alert me of the danger. He said he didn't look and just assumed I was on his heels. It hurts a little, but he was so brave to get Raegan.

Saturday I took Raegan to the park while Ryan had to work a half day. I didn't know ahead of time, but here was a car show going on, complete with a DJ and people from a dance studio. A little boy was out there tearing it up doing the robot and everything. Raegan was intrigued but very shy. We slowly made our way over. She kept looking at me with a sheepish grin, like "I want to do that!" She finally got out there and it was hilarious! I wish I had the camera. She dances just like she runs with that left arm pumping. She recently learned how to jump, so she was pumping her left arm really fast and jumping in circles. She let the dance instructor hold her while doing the cha-cha slide. Then she saw some couples swing dancing and grabbed my hands to dance with her like that. She has no idea how bad I am. After each song ended she said "more!"

For Mother's Day, Raegan woke me up with a sweet card. Then she sat on my neck. "Happy Day! Mom up!" The card cracked me up - "When I think back on our times together..." Ryan was proud of himself ;) We went to breakfast at our favorite place and then to the park. Raegan was disappointed that the music and dancing were gone. She danced a little then headed for the swings. My requests for the day were three-fold: no dish washing, no grocery shopping, and a cupcake. My wishes were granted and it was wonderful.
