I took the Handmade Pledge

We had a good week here. The weather is cooling off. I think the high last week was 72 and is predicted to be mid to high 60s this week. On Monday I took a boy from our class on a field trip with the 3rd grade. We saw "James and the Giant Peach" at a children's theater. I remember reading it in 3rd grade and really liking it. My little Downs friend was not very interested in me this week :( It hurt a little. By Friday he was interested again and wanted me to hold him, so of course I did! About 5 minutes later someone noticed he was getting pink eye. They took him to the school nurse, and sure enough he had it. I scrubbed my hands immediately, and so far I haven't gotten it.  Later that day, I was on the playground with a boy from our class. A group had come to set up a bike safety course for the 4th graders. He kept pointing and saying "bike" in his cute raspy voice, so we sat and watched the 4th graders go through the course. He sat so patiently, and when they were done I asked if he could ride. He said he knew how to ride, but we put him on a small bike with training wheels just to be sure. He did great! I was so proud of him! He was sad when it was time to go home because he loves doing school work.
We went to purchase our bedroom furniture on Monday, but the bed is out of stock right now. They told us to check back in a couple of weeks. Friday night we looked at flat panel TVs and ended up playing Guitar Hero at the store for about 20 minutes. I've played once before, but it was Ryan's first time. If you've never played, it's a lot if fun! Try it out sometime. On Saturday we looked at more furniture and ended up getting a rocker/recliner form Ashley. It was not from the same group as our sofa and love seat, but it is a great match! I think it will make a good reading/napping chair. It should be here in about 2 weeks... just in time for Thanksgiving football :)
I must admit that I have become a little addicted to browsing etsy.com, especially the handmade soaps. Guess what everyone's getting for Christmas?! :) Honestly, though, I am trying hard to buy handmade gifts this year. I like supporting small businesses, and there are so many creative people trying to make a living with their talents.  I've had fun sampling soaps. Most people offer sample sizes and it's a good way to try several scents.
That's about it for our week. We're going to see "Body of Lies" tonight. Ryan just finished the book last night. He has a lot of books that were put on hold while he was in grad school. He had so much reading for his classes that it didn't leave much time for pleasure reading. I'm proud of him for getting back into his books. His "library" is sometimes a sensitive topic. He promised to read and weed out once we moved and he's making good on his promise :) That makes me very happy!
